There are numerous alerting systems used throughout Pierce County to notify residents of hazards and other important information.   In addition to hazard notifications,  non-emergency alerts are also sent via these systems to inform residents of road closures, community events, and other notices.   The two main alert systems in use within Pierce County are:

1) PIERCE COUNTY ALERTS

Pierce County Alert

Pierce County has launched a new mass notification service that allows you to receive alerts about emergencies in your area. The system uses listed

phone numbers. You may also enter additional ways of contacting you, such as cell phones, business phones, and email. The information you enter is protected and will not be used for any other purpose.

How Emergency Alerts Work

When an alert is issued about an emergency, a potential safety hazard or concern, the messages will be sent to all standard voice and text communication devices that you have registered, including landline phones, cell phones, e-mail, and more. If you don’t confirm receipt of the message, the service will try to reach your second contact number or email. It is important to note the service will continue trying to contact you until it receives a confirmation from you. You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, cell or business phone, e-mail, text messages, hearing impaired receiving devices, and more. You pick where, you pick how.

#2 ORTING ALERTS (via CodeRed)

Orting Alerts is an emergency alert software that includes text, phone, and email notifications for the mass dissemination of critical messages. Using the software, the City of Orting can send information quickly and efficiently to residents via voice and text alerts. To receive alerts, residents will need to opt in by signing up at the link below.  Once enrolled, residents can control how they would like to be alerted, either via text, phone, or email.

Orting Alerts will primarily be used for emergencies, which involve incidents where life safety is at risk and for specific non-emergency situations that affect the citizens of Orting.

Code Red is in addition to PC Alerts which you may have already signed up for through Pierce County. Code Red allows the City of Orting to reach out to you, whereas PC Alerts will allow Pierce County to reach out in the event of a County wide emergency. The City encourages residents to sign up for both, as having multiple ways to be alerted in emergencies can be helpful.
