The City of Orting has several water sources, four wells and four springs. These sources are in various locations of the Orting Valley.

At the present time Orting does not add fluoride to the water.

We add a small amount of chlorine as a disinfectant, 0.5 parts per million. In other words, it's like adding one half gallon of chlorine to one million gallons of water.

Our water contains manganese naturally and is treated by using a product called Calciquest. The product binds and holds the manganese element together so your water won’t turn brown. Manganese, a secondary contaminant that poses no health risk, is more of an aesthetic problem. Turn off all the faucet fixtures in your home and around the outside of your home. Go out to your water meter, usually located near your property line in front of your home. If the small white triangle in the center of your meter is still spinning, then you may have a water leak in your service line. The City of Orting will repair water leaks leading up to your meter. You will have to call a plumber to have your service line repaired. (The service line is the line connecting from the water meter to the building)
