The mission of the Orting Municipal Court is to provide an accessible forum which guarantees the constitutional rights of a fair, speedy and courteous judicial process to each individual who is accused of committing a violation, infraction or crime, in such a manner that it preserves the dignity and rights of the defendant, as well as the citizens of the City of Orting.
The Orting Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. The Municipal Court judge is authorized by Washington State statute to preside over the following cases: civil and traffic infractions, criminal and gross misdemeanors.
The Court schedules mitigation and contested hearings, arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencing and reviews. The Court also provides related services, including legal representation for indigent persons and public defense screener services.
The Municipal Court does not hear small claims or civil cases, and does not process name changes or issue marriage licenses. Please contact Pierce County District Court at (253) 798-7474 for information about these services.
