Orting Police Officer Apprehends Suspect During An In-Progress Burglary

Saturday morning 20 Jan 17, just after 5 am, the single Orting officer on duty responded to a suspicious person call in the Rivers Edge neighborhood. A home owner reported an unknown person had knocked on his front door. Upon arrival the officer encountered the suspect attempting entry to the home through a backyard window. The suspect resisted apprehension and assaulted the officer. The officer sustained a minor injury from the assault. The officer used his TASER to subdue the suspect. The employment of the TASER was successful and the suspect was brought into custody. A number of burglary tools and a “switch blade” knife & a stolen firearm were recovered from the suspect. Responding units from other agencies arrived after the conclusion of the event and assisted in monitoring the suspect, while the Orting officer processed the scene. The suspect, whose history shows multiple arrest & a resident of Auburn, was booked into the Pierce County jail on charges to include Burglary 1st degree, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction.

Orting Traffic Stop for Speeding 5mph Over Leads to Meth Arrest

On Thursday morning, July 13, 2017, an Orting speed emphasis on Harman Way observed a vehicle at 30mph in a 25mph zone. When pulled over the driver stated he did not have his license with him, and gave a false name. Further investigation led to his real name and a computer check showed he had an outstanding felony DOC warrant for Escape, and additionally he had four outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Needles were observed in the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed approximately 20 hypodermic needles and a quantity of methamphetamine.

The driver was booked into the Pierce County Jail on all warrants and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Continue Reading

Orting Traffic Stop for Speeding Leads to Felony Arrest of Driver:

During the holiday weekend, the Orting Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. After contact was made with the driver, it was found he had two felony warrants issued for his arrest. One dealt with his sex offender status for failure to register; the other warrant was for escape. The driver was arrested and booked into Pierce County jail.

On the night of 26 June, several locations around Orting were “tagged” with graffiti. Today the Orting Police arrested one juvenile and identified three more juveniles involved with this vandalism. Press Release- Orting in Top 20 Safest Cities in Washington


The SafeWise Report Announces the 20 Safest Cities in Washington – City of Orting in Top 20. The SafeWise Report released its “20 Safest Cities in Washington” report on May 22, 2017. The City of Orting made the top twenty, coming in at 19, which is a move upward from 47, or 28 spaces, from the previous year. The report states “Cities across Washington are coming together to create inclusive communities that embrace all citizens of different ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. These initiatives work to establish communities ‘without boundaries where people take care of each other regardless of their differences.’’’ The Orting Police Chief stated, he is very proud of the efforts of his officers working collaboratively with our citizens, which places Orting in this respected category.

To compile this report, SafeWise used the most recent FBI crime data from 2015 to analyze and rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 2,000 people. “Washington’s safest cities are proactive about keeping all citizens safe. Across the state, they have enacted initiatives to make sure all residents are taken care of—regardless of race, ethnicity, or cultural background,” reports SafeWise Security Analyist Rebecca Edwards. “Comprehensive safety awareness like this is the type of thinking that helped each of our safest Washington cities come in well below the national averages for both violent and property crimes.”

Orting PD Apprehends Alleged Sexually Violent Predator

22 December 2016 – Orting Police Department
Today Orting Police Department (PD) assisted Vancouver, WA, PD & the Pierce County Sheriffs’ Department in the arrest of an alleged sexually violent predator. The male suspect was wanted on three counts of Rape of a Child & three counts of Molestation. Although the suspect was thought to be in Tacoma, WA, information came available from Pierce County Sheriffs’ Department, which indicated he was in Orting. Upon learning of this information, Orting PD acted immediately to locate the individual and successfully bring him into custody. He is being transported to Pierce County jail and then he will be moved to Vancouver for arraignment. Continue Reading

Drug House Bust!

Drug Dealing House Removed From Orting

At the request of Orting PD, early in the morning hours of Friday, December 16, 2016, the Cooperative Cities METRO SWAT served a high-risk narcotics search warrant on a house on Van Scoyoc Ave SW. A multi-agency investigation over several months had sustained substantial drug selling activity of heroin & methamphetamine at this location. As expected, two individuals were found to be in possession & selling illegal narcotics. The illegal drugs seized included, Oxycodone, Carisoprodol, Xanax, Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine, Clonazepam, Lorazepam, Alprazolam, Oxycontin, Suboxone, Methamphetamine, and a substantial amount of Heroin. All substances appeared prepared for selling.

Two individuals were brought into custody for booking. The charges include three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, two counts of drug paraphernalia and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Orting PD is conducting the ongoing investigation. No individuals were injured in this SWAT activity.

Orting PD is very appreciative of the assistance of the cooperative city agencies in removing this unlawful drug dealing activity from the Orting community and especially commends the professional work of the Metro Cities SWAT team. Continue Reading
