Sergeant Dowd is currently assigned as the day shift patrol sergeant and is in charge of the department's training unit.

He graduated from Orting High School in the early 1980’s.  Sergeant Dowd was hired as a police officer in 1984 by former Police Chief Ron Emmons and former Mayor Wayne Harman.  Sergeant Dowd worked for former Chief Emmons until his retirement in 2006.  Sergeant Dowd has worked for the department for 23 years.

Sergeant Dowd married an Orting High School graduate and the two have been married for nineteen years. “My wife and I have three wonderful children, one of which just graduated from Orting High School in 2007. I’m a devoted husband, dad, citizen of Orting, and Police Officer. This department and community have given me so many wonderful years. I could not imagine how different my life would have been if I were not apart of our rich Orting History.” Dowd says. “My retirement is coming too fast and I want to savor every moment while I can.”   Sergeant Dowd and his parents moved to Orting in the 70’s.
